DIY horse costume and other New Year's costumes. How to sew a carnival horse costume with your own hands. Sew a horse costume for theatrical performances.

Your child has always loved horses, and then one day he comes home and declares that for Halloween/New Year he only wants to be a horse. All you have to do is make such a costume. Here are some tips to help you cope with the task.

Difficulty: moderately easy.

You will need:
- scissors;
— felt/felt;
— foam rubber/foam;
- a visor (on the head; you can replace it with a homemade “hoop” in the style of a crown if you don’t find a sun visor on sale);
- black yarn;
- glue suitable for felt/felt;
- black marker;
- sewing needle;
- suitable threads;
— brown Velcro for clothes;
- black socks.

1. Buy fleece (or any similar soft fabric, as if with a pile on the front side) sports suit in brown tones. You will need 1 pair of pants and a jacket or pullover/hoodie in the size your child wears in this moment.

2. Buy felt/felt in the same color as the costume. As a last resort, paint it white. Such fabric can be purchased, among other things, in specialized stores with items for needlework. You will need about 0.8m of brown material (about half a meter wide) and in addition about 0.5m of black felt/felt.

3. Cut two rectangles of about 30x20 cm from brown felt. Wrap 2 pieces of felt around the child’s hands, from the wrists and above, securing them with pre-sewn Velcro (first try on the hands, mark the places where you need to sew Velcro so that the felt does not dangle and did not slide down).

These will be the front legs of the horse, you want the material to cover as much of the length of the arms as possible.

4. From a piece of black felt, cut 2 strips, approximately 8 cm wide and the length of the wrist wrapped in felt. Glue a strip to the bottom of the brown felt on the arms - around the wrists. The black color will symbolize hooves. From the remaining piece of brown felt, cut two more rectangles about 30x20 cm. Measure along the leg to mark the place for the Velcro, sew on the Velcro.

5. Dress your child in brown tracksuit pants. In 3 movements - the cuffs should be wide - roll up the trouser legs to about the knees. Put your child's shoes on and put thick black socks over the shoes (if necessary, use 2 pairs per foot so that the shoes do not show through). Pull up your socks and wrap the previously prepared rectangles of brown felt over them - from the ankles and above. Measure the resulting girth of the ankles, again cut out 2 strips (but about 4 cm wide) of black felt and again glue it to the bottom of the brown felt - around the ankles.

6. Buy 2 sheets of brown foam rubber (or any equivalent, for example, foam) about 5 mm-1 cm thick, about 40x30 cm in size.

Mark the entire length and width of the outline of the horse's head on the first sheet, copy it on the second, and cut out both. Outline the cut lines with a black, permanent marker (it shouldn’t get dirty either!) and draw eyes, a nose and the outline of the mouth on the front side of each piece.

Either draw these elements on paper - or print them from some picture - then cut them out and stick them on foam rubber. Afterwards, you will fasten both contours together - they will symbolize the horse’s profile on the right and left sides, respectively.

7. Attach both horse profiles to an upside-down brown sun visor (the visor should fit well on the child's head; the front of the visor should point up, not down as usual), on the left and right sides, respectively. The visor will need to support the weight of the horse's head on the child's head; the entire structure can be removed. We attach the foam profiles with threads or staples to the side arms of the visor; We also fasten the profiles in front to each other behind the nose area. In the back of the contours (neck or back of the head) we cut several small holes in order to also tighten them a little with thread, or - which is better - with leather straps.

8. Untangle and fluff out several meters of thick black yarn and tie it into a large knot at one end. We get a tail. Sew it to the trousers (or you can attach it to the belt). Cut enough more threads of varying lengths to make a mane and use thread and needle to attach it to the horse's foam head.

9. We put on a suit jacket and put the hood over our head. On top of the hood we put a hoop/inverted cap with a horse's head. The suit is ready. At the request and consent of the child, you can also put your hands in black gloves.

Add-ons:

— Light-colored tracksuits can be dyed brown using fabric paint (like foam rubber and felt);

— It is not at all necessary to assemble the costume in the order described; a lot can be tried on on the child and simply prepared in advance so that children do not have to walk around for several hours in separate parts of the costume. It’s even better to dress the child in a tracksuit, take the rest of the ready-made parts with you and be fully equipped on the spot - with Velcro, this task is greatly simplified.

Themes for New Year's parties are varied, and you can't always find what you need in the store. carnival costume, for example, horses. The solution is to create New Year's outfit with your own hands.

The blue horse is a symbol of the upcoming New Year 2014. Let's look at a few interesting ideas creating a horse costume with your own hands, which we can do at home, without the help of specialists.

It is not necessary to create a horse costume completely from start to finish with your own hands. One detail is enough to create the desired image, for example as in the photo below.

The simplest option is to sew a circle pillow around the waist from fabric and decorate it with a toy horse. This “suit” is relevant not only for small children, but also for adults. Of course, this outfit is very practical: you can put on/take off such a suit in a matter of minutes.

A more complex, but feasible, option is to sew a horse toy like this around your waist:

If you still decide to sew a full-fledged horse costume with your own hands, don’t worry, it’s easy to make, the only condition is that you need to take into account the age of the child.

Horse costume for toddlers

For kids, you need to choose the simplest option, because it will be difficult for him to stay in a tightly closed suit for a long time.

The ideal horse costume for a baby would be a vest or turtleneck combined with shorts/pants or a skirt. Naturally, the color scheme of the kit should be brown, red or white. You can use woolen threads or false artificial hair strands as a tail.

It is much more difficult with a headdress, since it is difficult for children to wear it for a long time.

But you can come up with an easy option: sew a cap from a material that matches the color of the suit, make a mane from the same materials as the tail.

Or the simplest option: make a bandage around your head out of cardboard and glue a drawing of a horse’s muzzle onto it.

Horse costume for preschool children

For children preschool age You can already design complex costumes. After all, during this period the child loves to dress up and wants to look unusual. The details of the costume can be cut out like a simple jumpsuit (the pattern can be found on the Internet). To connect the parts, you can use a gel gun to glue the parts together. You need to sew a hood to the overalls, onto which you need to sew the horse’s muzzle.

The muzzle can be made in the form of a drop, stuffed with foam rubber, ears and a bridle can be sewn on, eyes and nose can be glued on, and a mane can be sewn on.

The mane can be made from cardboard in the form of a series of triangles, or you can use fur from the hood edge of an old jacket.

The tail is also made from woolen threads or artificial strands, and it can also be sewn from felt with a tassel at the end.

As the most simple option you can buy a sweatshirt or sweatshirt with a hood Brown, sew a horse's muzzle, mane, and tail to it.

Horse costume for school children

Teenagers already need more serious costumes. For girls, you can use a dress in brown colors and sew a tail on it. As a headdress, you can sew a long flowing material to one side of the hair hoop and secure the mane to it. A mane made of cardboard would not be appropriate for teenagers.

For young men, a brown suit is best, or a sports suit is an option. A hat is suitable as a headdress, to which you need to sew a mane on the inside, and ears on the outside.

To make the costume you will need a plain gabardine or linen; fleecy fur or thick yarn or boa (from ballroom dancing accessories) for the mane; sparkles (sequins). For finishing "apples" - a can of light, quick-drying paint (for example, for graffiti).

Description of work

1. Simulation
The suit is sewn using the basic pattern of a vest and jacket. The pattern of the sleeve and trousers must be divided into two parts, the lower part should be expanded (socket).

Picture 1

Preparing patterns.
Change the details of the basic pattern as shown in Figure 1.

Pattern.
1. Shelf - two parts
2. Back - one piece with a fold
3. Sleeve - two parts
4. The front half of the trousers - two parts
5. The back half of the trousers - two parts
6. Sleeve bell - two parts
7. The bell of the back half of the trousers - two parts
8. The bell of the front half of the trousers - two parts
9. Belt - braided

Additionally:

2. Pattern of the ear, draw it yourself according to the sketch,
overall dimensions: 10 x 8 cm.

2. Finish

Shake the can of paint and apply “apples” to the pattern pieces made of gray gabardine. Practice on a scrap piece of fabric first. In order for the “apple” to have a “soft contour”, it is necessary to move your hand to a greater distance at the moment of spraying.

3. Sewing

Trousers.
Sew down the details of the trousers and flares. Press the seams. Stitch the sides and crotch seams. Place the trouser legs one inside the other and sew the middle seam. Make a drawstring along the top edge of the trousers. Insert elastic band. Embroider the bells of the trousers with sequins.

Tail.

Attach the tail to the trouser waistband. The length of the tail is not below the knees.

Tunic.

Cut and sew a tunic according to the pattern and description from any sewing magazine. Make sleeves with bells. Make slits on the sides of the tunic. Finish the neckline with a roll, the ends of which are also ties. Embroider the bells of the sleeves and the front of the tunic with sparkles and decorate with rhinestones.
Choose a woven belt with long ends or make your own. To do this, sew three long rolls and braid them. Sew several bright pussies onto the tunic (see sketch). If desired, you can decorate the back with a horseshoe applique.

Cap.

Cut and sew cap Sew a mane (faux fur with a very long pile or boa) along the middle seam of the hat. The free end should hang a few centimeters from the back (to the shoulder blades).
Sew the ears. We cut the larger part (outer contour) from gabardine and duplicate it with interlining (dublerin or non-woven fabric) for rigidity; we do not duplicate the smaller part from light satin (or crepe-satin). We connect the contours, grind them down, and turn them right side out. Sew the ear to the cap along the stitching line. We embroider the band with sparkles and rhinestones.

Tail.

Using yarn of a matching color (you can use a boa), make a knee-length ponytail. Secure the tail in the back seam of the trousers.

You and your child have already figured out who he will be on New Year? There are a lot of options, but since we are celebrating the Year of the Horse, it is logical to make a Horse costume with your own hands! How to make a New Year's Horse costume quickly, with minimal financial and labor costs - now we'll show you!

Why buy an expensive suit that will only be needed at the matinee, and also at New Year's Eve? And not everyone has time to figure out how to sew a horse costume using patterns, and not everyone knows how to sew. But every mother can make a simple Konik or Horse costume, and all you need for this is:

- a hat or hood from a jacket, fur coat - preferably the color of a horse, brown, red, although blue or green is also possible, matching the color of the New Year's Horse;
- a piece of fabric for the ears;
- a skein of yarn for the mane and tail;
- thread, needle, scissors.

How to make a New Year's Horse costume:

We wind the yarn into a long skein. It is convenient to wrap the stool legs around them, but not too tightly. We tie the skein at one end with strong thread or ribbon, and cut it at the other. It turns out to be a ponytail! You can make a mane in the same way.

We sew ears to the hat or hood (you can see this link in the article “How to make a horse on a stick”), and attach the mane between the ears.

The tail can be sewn directly to the pants or skirt, or you can make a belt to attach the tail to.

Instead of a hat, I used the hood of a fur coat, sewing its edges together so that the fur became a mane, and sewing on the ears.

A simple homemade horse costume is ready! If desired, you can complement it with almost real hooves with horseshoes! I read a great idea - black socks are put on the hands and feet, to which horseshoes are sewn. Class! Clacks like a real horse! This is an option for the most creative - you just need to get horseshoes somewhere. Just choose light ones, otherwise it might turn out like in my favorite cartoon.

With coming!!!
