Recently, the whole country was shocked by horrifying footage of geography teacher Lyubov Shvartskop from Pervouralsk beating her seven-year-old adopted daughter Veronica. The 38-year-old woman hit the child with a belt and pulled his ears. As it turned out, everything that happened in the apartment was filmed by the teacher’s common-law husband, but did not try to save the baby from the mother’s wrath. Now the girl was taken away by the guardianship authorities, and Lyubov herself was put under house arrest and fired from school.

In the “Let Them Talk” program, Schwartzkop got in touch with the Channel One studio. She talked about what caused her daughter to be treated so cruelly.

“It’s very difficult to say in one word. I just couldn't stand it. “I understand that I hurt her, but it hurts me too,” the woman admitted through tears. “I invested all of myself and time into this child. I lifted her out of such a hole, we started with the sound “a”, now the general program. In five years I rose to this level.”

The guests in the studio were outraged by Lyubov’s attitude towards Veronica. She tried to prove to the experts that she was not a bad person and a worthy teacher. “I already repented a long time ago for hurting the child. The former common-law husband of the geography teacher, Pavel Rodionov, came to film the program. He said that he filmed the video in order to protect himself from accusations of beating a child. The man said that some people thought that Veronica's bruises appeared because of him. However, Lyubov did not talk about whether her lover raised his hand to the girl. Experts were outraged that the man did not intervene in the family drama and did not protect the seven-year-old baby. According to Pavel, he stood up for the child - otherwise the recording would have lasted longer.

In the footage, a sadistic mother holds her child by the ears. The truth was told by a former common-law husband who had silently observed such a pedagogical process for many years. One day he filmed the execution on his phone, just in case. The man admitted that he was afraid that the bullying and beatings would fall on him. Neighbors often complained about children's screams.

Now the same psychiatrists have admitted: the woman who until recently worked at the school is unwell. She urgently needs medical help.

According to the lawyers, the woman cried throughout the hearing and asked to be allowed to see the child. But this meeting is unlikely to take place. The girl is still recovering from stress; she has a long period of rehabilitation ahead of her in a new foster family. New mom The girl says that the little girl is still afraid to return home from school if she gets a bad grade.

Now at Veronica's new family. The bruises went away, but the mental trauma remained. And it is not yet clear whether the court will evaluate the actions of not only the adoptive mother, but also all those who gave her the child and also silently watched the children’s suffering.

The Investigative Committee of the Sverdlovsk Region reported that a criminal case was opened against the woman back in the summer under paragraph “d” of Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (torture committed against a person known to the perpetrator to be in a helpless state or in financial or other dependence on culprit).

In 2011, the suspect took into her family a girl born in 2010. From at least October 2015 to May 2017, she systematically used physical and mental violence against the child for minor reasons.

In the summer, information about a dysfunctional family came to law enforcement agencies. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region told Znak.com that the fact of child abuse was discovered by the press secretary of the Pervouralsk police while monitoring the Internet. We conducted an investigation and identified the family in which these events took place. “It turned out that systematic assault was carried out by a teacher at one of the city’s schools, who had taken guardianship of a young orphan,” the police said. “The baby was immediately removed from the family on the initiative of the police, and the citizen was deprived of guardianship by a court decision.” On June 29, a criminal case was opened.

“She is suspected under the article “Torture of a person known to be in a helpless state, or otherwise dependent on the perpetrator.” She systematically used physical and mental violence against the child for minor reasons, in particular, she beat the girl with a belt,” said Alexander Shulga, senior assistant manager Investigative Committee in the Sverdlovsk region.

Lyubov Schwartzkop herself assures me that this is the only time she lost her temper. This is exactly what ended up on the video. There are, however, several more episodes in the case when traces of beatings were found on the child’s body. For each such case, the adoptive mother seems to have an explanation. The girl either slipped on the washed floor or tripped over the threshold in the bathhouse. And now her former partner is allegedly slandering her.

“It was done out of spite because I kicked him out of our life. For his drinking, for his mockery. He brought it to such a state that she couldn’t hear anyone. He taught her a lot of bad things, taught her to lie, taught her to hide,” the woman claims.

“My client believes that this did not go beyond normal pedagogical activity, normal educational process“says Lyubov Schwartzkop’s lawyer Sergei Isaev.

Those who have already watched the video are outraged by the behavior of the man who filmed it. People don't understand why he didn't intervene.

It also raises the question of where the guardianship authorities have been looking all these years, because such foster families should be checked regularly. The Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Sverdlovsk Region, Igor Morokov, is sure that this is exactly the case when it was extremely difficult to discern violence from the outside.

“When guardianship officials came to the family, the girl smiled. Therefore, it was difficult to understand from communication that something was happening there. It's like this thin matter", he says.

The investigation is ongoing. The woman and girl are still awaiting psychological examinations. If sufficient evidence of Lyubov Schwartzkop’s guilt is collected, she faces from three to seven years in prison. The criminal article under which the case was initiated does not provide for a suspended sentence.

But the girl has developmental features - these are congenital abnormalities. A psychiatric examination is being carried out in relation to her, as well as in relation to my client, however, the results are still unknown to us.

As for the rest of the episodes? Why is torture charged?
Torture is systematic beating. So far she has not been charged, but since the “foam” has risen, they will most likely bring it one of these days, literally next week, I think. But the beating is objectively confirmed only by this video recording. In the Ren-TV report there was a video in which a girl stands in a robe and shows wounds on her ears. So they explained to me that this was streptoderma, and not damage from beatings. But it turns out that the defendant pulled her by the ears, and the video showed that she had abrasions from this.

The second moment - the girl came to kindergarten, and she has a strip-like abrasion on her left cheekbone. It all started with her, all the hype. My client explains that the child is active, and everyone knows about it. The girl was running around in the apartment, and the defendant had only washed the floor - it was slippery, linoleum, and the child drove over it and hit the table. And is this intentional assault? I think that 99% of the prosecution's evidence will be based on the testimony of the child and the testimony of the partner.

There was also a moment when a girl came in with bruises on her thighs and buttocks. My client explains that her parents live in the countryside, that she went with the girl to the bathhouse, soaped her up, and she slipped off the shelves. And the parents saw and confirmed this.

In total, the investigator asked her about four episodes. And here is the fourth most absurd, in my opinion. Here is a girl sitting and solving some problems, reading a book, and her character trait is this: if she doesn’t know how to speak, apparently due to her illness, she will bury her head, sit and be silent. My client asks her: “So B..., what is written “a” or “b”? And she is silent. And she, too, cannot be completely whitewashed, but all this is vital, we were raised the same way, she began to persuade her to read a book, but it hurt her. And this is violence, it turns out.

In general, one fact does not form a crime today. Until March 2017, this would have been a crime, but then domestic battery was decriminalized. Nowadays, beatings can be prosecuted criminally when they are committed for racist or hooligan reasons, but the rest is administrative.

In theory, the girl was under guardianship, she should have been visited regularly by social security...
My client has documents showing that the guardianship authorities regularly checked the family. The client wrote reports, they were checked, and how - this is a question for guardianship. Their actions, as investigators said, will be assessed criminally. But this no longer concerns us.

Has any preventive measure been taken against your client?
Initially there was an obligation to appear, now there is a written undertaking not to leave. The investigator is confident that the case will be completed in three months - by September 23 (it was opened on June 23). But I think it won’t work, because... The psychological and pedagogical examination of the child is scheduled only for mid-September, and there is simply no time to complete it.

Why was it appointed so late?
We will also raise this question. When my client came to me, there wasn’t even a criminal case yet. This was at the end of May. She came to me because her child was taken away and her custody was terminated. She wanted to dispute this. I understand that the fight against crime is against minors, but this is when they are beaten, raped, killed. And we got into this direction. My client became a victim of all these circumstances. All this juvenile justice... But imagine, she has been raising her since 2011. She was one year old when she took it. She took her to doctors, to specialized kindergartens, for food - in the end the girl looked like a god, she called her mom. And she says: " Now it has been taken away from me and given to someone else."(according to New Day, the girl is still kept in a social center where children with special needs are raised). She is crying - not because she is afraid for her fate, that they will give her seven years there, no, she is talking about the child, she is shaking everything with these drawings of hers.
