A simple apron pattern in an hour. Children's apron for work and the kitchen: pattern and master class on sewing an apron for a child How to sew a chef's apron for a child pattern

Thanks to our article today, mothers will be able to protect their child, and at the same time their nervous system, from annoying stains that remain on children's clothes after drawing, modeling and other creative feats of the baby. It's quite easy to do this. It is enough to make a children's apron for creativity for him. There are as many as five wonderful models presented to the attention of needlewomen that even those mothers who are not friends with a sewing machine and are far from tailoring can use.

Mom is calm, the child is happy...

So, what exactly is a children's apron for creativity? How is it different from a regular apron, and what is its purpose? This accessory is designed to serve as a reliable barrier between the child’s clothes and the art materials with which he works. Aprons vary in structure:

  • apron with bib;
  • apron with cross straps;
  • cape

The main feature of a product intended for working with paints, clay or plasticine is the material it is made from. In specialized stores, sellers offer various waterproof children's aprons for creativity made from raincoat fabric or from rubberized or oilcloth fabric. But it is not at all necessary to buy it, especially since the price for one such product is quite impressive. An apron for creativity with sleeves (for children) and Velcro fastening on the back will cost about 600 rubles, simpler models on average cost 250-350 rubles.

For super kids

Be that as it may, this is a necessary acquisition that will be useful for a mother for homework with her child, and it is imperative to prepare it for a kindergarten or school. That’s why we’ll tell you how to make a children’s apron for creativity with your own hands. Let's start by discussing the fabric from which it is best to sew it.

First of all, it must be moisture-repellent. A child, especially when he is passionate about his activity, has no time to think about such trifles as splashes of water or greasy and corrosive stains from plasticine that safely settle on clothes. It is very difficult to remove such flaws. Therefore, it is better to simply protect yourself from them with an apron. To sew it, you can choose thick cotton fabric, but it is better to replace it with something more practical. It could be:

  • raincoat fabric, from which the tops of jackets are sewn;
  • material intended for sewing workwear;
  • camouflage fabric (perfect for boys);
  • oilcloth on a cotton basis.

For those who have experience in tailoring, it will not be difficult to make a two-layer product, in which the front side can have any material you like, and a “waterproof fabric” can be used on the back side. Thus, the end result is something like a huge bib.

For all occasions

Now, let's look at the possible options for how to sew a children's apron for creativity. The simplest and most popular way is the traditional apron with a bib. Readers can see the pattern of one of them a little higher. As shown in the image, the apron can be large, for an adult, or small. The mother can adjust the length herself so that the finished product is suitable specifically for her baby. It is better to add one or more pockets to the apron, in which it will be convenient to put tools or available materials.

Such an apron will be useful not only for needlework, but also for working in the kitchen, because little helpers love to cook with their mothers, so they should have their own personal chef uniform.

Dad can, dad can do anything

Of course, not every father will be able to sew an apron for his child, but he will be ready to give his old shirt to be “torn to pieces” by his mother. And it will make an excellent and very original apron. By the way, patterning a children’s apron for creativity from a shirt may not be useful. The drawing is drawn directly on the fabric. The most troublesome part of this apron to process will be the collar. The needlewoman will have to carefully process the side that was sewn to the shirt itself.

If this is a model without a collar, as shown in the top photo, then you can use a standard pattern as a basis, for example this one:

Just to begin with, you will need to tear off the sleeves from the shirt (they will make excellent sleeves), the collar and separate its front part from the back. Next, the part with the buttons is folded in the middle, the pattern is placed on the fabric, you need to trace it, add allowances, after which the apron is cut out. Additional elements of the product (strings, eyelets and pockets) can be cut and sewn from the back of the shirt.

Japanese miracle

Now we present to our readers an apron-cape for children’s creativity that is amazing in its simplicity and convenience. Its advantage is that the child will be able to put on such an apron on his own, he will not need to ask someone to tie the belt.

This model is a traditional Japanese apron designed for doing household chores. The pattern provided in the article is designed for sewing a product for a child. After the pattern is transferred to the fabric, you need to add allowances for processing the cuts, which will be easiest to edge with bias tape, because there are a lot of rounded lines in the product. Simply fold the edges in and stitch them using sewing machine It won't work neatly.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the lines indicated by dotted lines on the pattern are the junctions of the straps with the apron panel, which are connected crosswise at the back.

Light version

The previous one is not the easiest to implement. For girls who know how to sew well, it will be easy to do it, but for those who have little experience in this matter, we offer a simplified analogue. This is a children's apron for creativity, sewn from a rectangle of fabric.

For a child, you will need to adjust the provided data so that the length of the product is suitable for the child’s height, and the width of the rectangle, and therefore the apron itself, is selected taking into account the child’s build. The width of the straps also needs to be selected individually. So, for an adult you need to take strips 6 cm wide, which are sewn folded in half, as a result the loops are slightly less than three centimeters, for a child this can be a lot (it is better to limit it to 1.5-2 cm).

Saving the sleeves

Many parents recommend giving their child more than just an apron for lessons. And it wouldn’t hurt for your baby to have armbands for children’s creativity either. Sewing them is not difficult. To do this, you should prepare two rectangles of fabric, the width of which will be equal to the circumference of the arm plus 12-14 cm for stitching and gathering, and the length depends on the height to which you need to protect the sleeves. Usually this is a measurement equal to the length from the wrist to the middle of the forearm. The sleeve is first sewn lengthwise, then along both edges you need to fold the edge and make a drawstring for the elastic.

Peel eggs, wash carrots and throw bay leaves into soup... so many important things kids have to do in the kitchen! How can a junior chef manage without a real apron? Or maybe in kindergarten or is there an interesting activity coming up at school and you have been asked to prepare an apron? In any case, the idea of sewing a children's apron with your own hands, rather than buying a ready-made one, is reasonable and justified. After all, it can be sewn in one evening, does not require any special skills and provides a lot of opportunities for creativity. And of course, beautiful children's aprons for the kitchen will help you introduce your baby to work and neatness.

This article will be useful for both mothers with sewing experience and beginning needlewomen. The main thing here is desire and imagination. Therefore, before starting work, let's get inspired by original ideas for aprons for boys and girls.

Master class: sewing a children's apron in one evening

In our master class we will show an example of how you can sew a children's apron for a boy as quickly as possible.

Using this basic method, you can also sew an apron for a girl, but, of course, in this case, the fabric needs to be chosen in the appropriate color, the pattern can be made more complicated, for example, with a round skirt and a figured bodice, and of course, add ruffles, lace or appliqués. This is what girls' aprons can look like, sewn using the method we described.

So, in order to sew a children’s apron with our own hands, we need:

  1. Dense natural fabric as a base;
  2. Bright material for a pocket or decoration;
  3. Biased cotton tape (try to find or make cotton tape yourself, since satin, firstly, is slippery, and secondly, does not fit well with natural fabric);
  4. Threads in the color of the binding;
  5. Sewing supplies: machine, pins, scissors.

First we need to cut the fabric. You can do this using a ready-made pattern. But we chose the simplest cutting method without using a pattern, but with some measurements.

  1. Cut out a rectangle. Its width can be selected without measurements - as a rule, it is 45-60. We calculate the length using measurements for the child - we determine on the chest the place where the apron should begin and measure the desired length.
  • Since we will be edging all the edges of the apron, we do not take into account hem allowances. But if you do not want to edge the entire apron, then the length and width should be determined taking into account hem allowances of 3 cm on one side;
  • You can sew a children's apron either for growth or with a “mini” length.
  1. Fold the resulting rectangle in half (lengthwise) with the front side inward. Now on this workpiece you need to make side cuts, outlining a concave (or straight) line. To do this: on the baby’s chest we determine the appropriate width of the upper part of the apron, for example, it can be 23 cm. Then we measure the distance from the top of the apron to the waist line, that is, where the ties will be sewn. Along the top of the folded rectangle, from the fold to the side, mark half the desired width of the chest part of the apron (23 cm/2 = 11.5 cm). From this mark we draw a concave or straight cut line to the waist level, which we have already determined earlier. Cut off the excess and start preparing the pocket.
  2. A pocket, in our case, is just a rectangular piece of bright fabric. Pockets in the shape of a heart, a semicircle, etc. are more suitable for a girl.

So, the workpiece is ready, let's start processing its edges using hems or edging, as in our master class. We start work from the chest part. Ribbon, braid, strip of fabric must be prepared in the appropriate way - bent, folded and ironed.

  • The master class uses bias tape made of cotton fabric - yes, it is not so easy to find in the store, but it is very easy to work with, as it does not slip and goes well with cotton fabric.

First we sew the binding at the top of the apron. The length of the binding should be slightly greater than the width of the top of the product.

Then we sew the edges of the apron, starting from the waistline on one side of the product and ending on the other. At the corners, the binding is folded and stitched as shown in the photo below.

It should look like this.

The remaining unfinished edges will be trimmed with binding, which will form the ties. To do this, take approximately 135 cm of tape and, leaving a 45 cm piece free (this is the future tie), fasten it with pins from the top to the bottom edge of the rounded side of the apron (photo on the left). First we sew the binding along the edge of the product, and then the remaining ties (photo on the right). We perform the same actions on the other side.

Now we sew on the pocket. We place it in the center of the apron, secure it with pins and sew on three sides along the outer edge of the binding.

If you wish, you can make a pocket with 1-3 compartments. In our lesson we will make two compartments - one narrow (for example, for a pen) and one wider - for the little chef’s important items. We simply determine the width of each compartment and stitch it in the right place.

An apron is more than just work clothes for the kitchen. Among the abundance of kitchen utensils and utensils, it occupies a special place. Agree, it is impossible to imagine a cook in a robe or a neat housewife without an apron. It is also a sign of attention for guests who volunteer to help in the kitchen, and even an element children's education. Therefore, it will be useful to have several aprons in the house for each individual occasion.

It's hard to think of something simpler than sewing an apron for the kitchen.

Among the countless models among them Conditionally, three main ones can be distinguished:

  • an apron with ties that attaches to the belt;
  • an apron with a bib, which is worn around the neck and cinches the waist with a belt;
  • one-piece chef's apron.

The most primitive pattern consists of a rectangular piece of fabric with two pintucks on the sides as darts, stitched at the top with a belt. A more complex pattern consists of two ordinary rectangles for the apron and bib, as well as a pair of ties for the neck and belt. To build such a model, you will need no more than one hour of free time.

An apron for the kitchen is inexpensive. But it will cost you much less to create patterns to sew this indispensable kitchen accessory yourself. Especially if you need several of them.

Depending on the availability of free time and desire, you can sew pockets to the apron. It is very convenient and practical.

When using a creative approach to business, decorating a product with frills, yokes, ruffles, it is important not to overdo it, since beautiful, but unnecessary details can cling to furniture or restrict movement, interfering with work.

Therefore, if there is a child growing up in the family, you cannot do without a pattern for a small children’s apron for the kitchen. And if for an adult it is made almost dimensionless, then to create a pattern for a growing girl or boy it will be necessary to take measurements.

The main dimensions are:

  1. Length - separately, depending on the height of the child, measure the dimensions of the bib and apron.
  2. Half waist circumference - this value will be needed to determine the width of the apron and the length of the belt.

Apron for a boy - a simple pattern

The neck strap can be a solid ribbon that turns into a belt. It is used to grind the sides of the apron and tie the ends behind the back. Such an apron will not restrict the child’s movements.

Materials:

  1. Fabric, preferably dense (cotton, linen) 40x43 cm + oilcloth of the same size (optional)
  2. Bias tape approximately 60 cm and 2 pcs. 75 cm each (possible without it) / or strips of fabric 60x3 cm, 75x3 cm (2 pieces), 16x3 cm. Thread, sewing machine, scissors

Pattern of a children's apron:

  • First, let's prepare a pattern and cut out the apron part from it.
P.S. You can make an additional layer of oilcloth. We cut out the same part according to the pattern. We sew these two parts together on a machine, placing the fabric on top of the oilcloth.

  • We baste bias tape to the bottom of the apron from edge to edge. We do machine stitching. If there are ends of the trim left, then cut them off at the level of the apron line.

Or we make a fabric blank instead of binding: a strip of 60 x 3 cm. We turn the edges inward to the middle on both sides. Iron.

  • We also process the top with binding (or a blank made from a strip of fabric (16 cm x 3 cm)). You can add a decorative element, such as a lace ribbon.

  • We apply the trim (or a strip blank) to the sides of the apron, leaving the required length for the ties on the top and sides. Stitch on a typewriter.

  • Finish the edges of the binding from the ends of the ties, tucking them inward.
  • You can sew a pocket if desired, for example for tassels or a rag.
