Winter boots ecco gore tex. What makes GORE-TEX® shoes so popular? Characteristics, reviews and care

The peculiarities of the climate in our country force people to carefully approach their purchases. quality shoes. Who wants to suffer every day drying their boots after walking through snow and puddles, or, on the contrary, sweating in waterproof rubber galoshes? Today, quickly and accurately choosing a reliable pair of shoes is quite possible. To do this, you need to look for a model marked with the GORE-TEX logo, which guarantees its owners’ feet 100% dry and comfortable. Gore-Tex shoes never get wet!

Brand history

Breathable fabrics, now called GORE-TEX, were created by order of NASA, but became famous in the field of W. L. Gore & Associates was the first and only company in the production of “smart” matter used to make things for tourism.

GORE-TEX has achieved amazing results: today it is one of the leading manufacturers on the market membrane materials, supplying products to global manufacturers of clothing and footwear for athletes and lovers of all types of outdoor activities. Gore Tex is a household name, as now almost any waterproof wearable item can be called Gore-Tex.

Features of GORE-TEX®

Unique properties: waterproofness and the ability to “breathe” made the technology so famous. As a result of research, scientists have found that human feet secrete about 25 ml of sweat per day at rest and about 100 ml during physical activity. This threatens overheating, and subsequently hypothermia, so removing moisture is vital, not allowing it to remain in the shoes. The main properties of the famous material are associated with this fact:

  • Increased water resistance. Shoes with Gore-tex membrane does not leak and this is its most important property. The unique membrane that creates such protection is a Teflon film with a huge number of pores, 20 thousand times smaller in diameter than a drop of water. This allows the material not to allow moisture to pass through at a pressure of 28,000 mm of water. Art., and it is worth noting that ordinary rain has a pressure of no higher than 7500 mm of water. Art.
  • Ideal vapor permeability. Steam easily passes through the porous material, since the membrane holes are 700 times wider than its molecules. Therefore, it is true that sweat will evaporate from the surface of the skin at the strongest physical activity. A person’s skin in such high-tech shoes will definitely “breathe.”
  • Reliable wind protection. The material is unique because in products where it is used, Gore-Tex shoes not only meet the windproof standard, but significantly exceed it.

In addition to dryness, the special “microclimate” of things created using Gore-tex technology is to maintain a constant temperature at 31°, which is recognized as the most comfortable while moving. The Gore-Tex product is cold-resistant, does not warp, and is very lightweight.

Gore-Tex keeps everyone, everywhere dry and comfortable

The membrane is designed for all seasons. The lines of popular manufacturers of quality shoes include models that:

It is unfair to assume that the scope of technology is limited exclusively to sports and active recreation. Today, most brands have a good range of fashionable membrane shoes for every day, plus models in business style. It is known that Gore-Tex shoes are in great demand by parents of children, because the highest demands are placed especially on children's shoes. Female models Gore-Tex performs well during long walks. In the huge variety of products made using this technology, you can find elegant options with heels or wedges. Each woman will choose the right pair for herself in accordance with her own taste, in any style, any color, and with or without lacing. And even for a comfortable stay, cozy slippers are offered.

Careful care required

An important condition for maintaining the properties characteristic of these products is regular Gore-tex. You just need to clean it with a brush or wipe it with a damp sponge, and after drying, treat it water-repellent compounds and sprays. Do not forget that the usual oily care products will close the pores of the material. The best solution is to purchase special care products for things made using this technology. It is recommended to dry products in natural conditions, placing them away from heat sources such as radiators and electric heaters, which can harm the unique membrane.

Gore-Tex shoes. Customer Reviews

After reading the opinions of users on the Internet, we can conclude that they fully confirm all the promises made by the creators and manufacturers of membrane shoes. You can especially often find reviews like this:

  • with Gore-Tex you are not afraid of puddles, slush, or snow porridge;
  • light, stylish and comfortable;
  • durable and wear-resistant, they are not afraid of scratches;
  • can last more than one season with proper care;
  • dry, comfortable and simply “indestructible” shoes;
  • very warm, can even be worn in winter, if not severe frosts, however, they slide a little.

Of course, there are also negative responses online. Judging by them, the product has the following disadvantages:

Advantages:

didn't find something

Flaws:

the price of such boots is a maximum of 3000, but not 10

In the first winter after the birth of my child, I had to walk a lot, namely walk, so after wearing out 2 pairs of leather boots for 5,000 rubles, I decided to buy something more expensive and more durable.
I bought these “miracle boots” in the middle of last winter. For 7,000 rubles with a discount of about 30 percent, I hoped that they would not be demolished. They look normal, so I took them for all seasons at once. Worn February, March, April, November and December. If you count it's not that much.
The membrane means that they cannot be dried with heat. This is the main disadvantage. I use impregnation against dirt and moisture (branded!) for 600 rubles, by the way. And she doesn't help. I can only use newspaper. It’s terrible if on day 2 of the walk they don’t have time to dry and the second time I walk in wet boots. This entire membrane is simply saturated with moisture from the inside. By the way, due to the impossibility of thermal exposure, treatment against fungus using ultraviolet radiation is also impossible. And where there is moisture there are fungi.
At night I put newspaper in there and this at least somehow helps to expel the moisture from the inside. As for the dirt, in dirty, dusty weather they look terribly untidy, as if you haven’t cleaned them, as soon as you leave the house all the dirt seems to stick to them, despite the impregnation. Because the sweat doesn't drain properly inside, they stink. Simply a disaster. By the way, your feet get cold if you stand on the playground while your child is playing. It's not cold only when walking.
So they are not worth the money. And on one more boot a hole appeared on the side (the rubber had come off a little). And the laces are made of such slippery fabric that they come undone while walking, which is wildly annoying when you walk along a busy street with a stroller. I give it a three for comfort only because of the non-slip sole. It's disgusting inside and there's no comfort to speak of.

Using the example of my husband's ECSO leather boots made of yak leather, we found out that the GORETEX technology does not work for life, but only for the first time. The store consultants admitted this to us. At first everything is fine and wonderful, nothing leaks anywhere, and then the leather (or other material from which the boots are made) begins to become saturated with moisture. No, they do not get wet, the joints are tightly sealed, and they are saturated with moisture. The longer you walk in a wet environment, the more likely you are to get your feet wet. Impregnation was used from the first days. As it turned out, when buying impregnation, you need to spray it three times - sprayed, dried, sprayed

if water or pure snow gets in, the water rolls up into balls, and if reagents get in, the shoes can get wet.

“It seems to me that this is all a major scam by shoe manufacturers and a way to shake off extra money from gullible customers.”

I also have this thought...

I would prefer good leather boots WITHOUT a membrane.

It is not clear why some manufacturers even put a membrane on desert shoes.

The membrane should, in theory, become clogged with dirt and delaminate over time - accordingly, lose its properties and become unusable faster than the boots themselves...

If you're going to put a membrane in a shoe, then only the best one.

Advantages:

neat, water-repellent impregnation Gore-tex, shoe wear resistance

Flaws:

the child’s feet are cold even with socks, the insulation is peeling off from the inside, there is no instep support

I am familiar with Ecco shoes firsthand. I wore it myself - I was satisfied, my husband wore it - no complaints, they bought sandals for my son for his small feet - everything is great! And when the leg grew to two years old, the question arose about winter shoes. And, of course, we went to the nearest Ecco to choose boots. It wasn’t a matter of cost, it was a matter of high-quality protection of feet from frost and cold. We trusted Ecco, so we didn’t consider any more options for the winter.

We chose membrane boots - very neat, with a pair of Velcro - for quick dressing and comfort for the baby. The boots seemed thin to me, but I’m still used to the fact that children’s winter shoes are no thinner than felt boots and look massive on their feet - a stereotype from my childhood. And these ones are really very neat. The seller assured us that our feet would not even get close to freezing, since the shoes were membrane.

The soles of the boots are of high quality, they endured two winters and remained almost new - they hardly wore off, provided that Small child and shuffles his feet, and falls, and runs around everywhere. And in general, outwardly the boots were very well preserved, except that they were worn out and a little wrinkled. The noses are a little worn, but how could we do without it after two years?

The material from which the boots are made is suede and textile. There are also reflective areas that glow in the dark when you shine light on them. The top features a water-repellent Gore-Tex Snowride treatment. There was never a time when the boots got wet.

The boots are fastened with two Velcro, the tongue tightly fits the leg, and it is not on its own, but stitched to the sides of the boots so that neither snow nor cold gets inside. The instep of the boots is not high, our foot did not like it. Also, the boots are narrow, and our wide feet suffered. You can't put on a sock - it's too tight for your feet. I note that it was OUR size, and it was even a little larger, but the sock still didn’t fit.

There is an insole inside, but no arch support. Felt insole and inner lining. During the interaction between the boot and the foot, the felt inside in the heel area was torn, this can be seen in the photo.

Well, now about the main thing. My feet were freezing in these boots! In the harsh winter of 2010, I was afraid for my son’s health, since the boots did not protect me from the frost, I had to push my son so that he could run and not freeze. This fact completely discouraged me from buying such boots for my son in the future. Therefore, now we wear Kuoma boots, about which I have already written a laudatory review.

Ecco are not cheap boots, but their quality upset me, despite the membranes and various systems.

If I want to have a guarantee of warm and dry feet no matter how I walk, it means buying proven ones.

I bought two flagship models from the company store. I have a good feeling about this company. Not evil and not a redneck. But I declare absolutely objectively - they are not intended for the Urals. I’m not saying this unfoundedly (as I wrote above, I took two top models).

Neutral reviews

Everyone I knew praised my Ecco Gore-Tex winter membrane shoes very much. But when I started reading about them on the Internet, I found information that Ecco shoes Gore-Tex no arch support. And to prevent flat feet, small children under three years old are recommended to wear shoes with arch supports.
In general, very few winter shoes come with arch support. But I found excellent winter Viking membrane shoes, the instep support is in a mold. In general, I bought my daughter Viking membrane shoes for this winter, they also have a Gore-Tex membrane, the price is practically no different from Ecco, and they are superior in orthopedic characteristics.

Positive reviews

woe tex this is not instead of fur

Gore Tex, like other membranes, does one thing - it allows air to pass out, while not letting water in

To keep warm you need more insulation (maybe the same fur)

Usually such shoes are for sports and there is not very strong insulation, i.e. You can't go ice fishing in one of these

I roughly estimated that between the three of us we now have 6 pairs of membrane shoes (not just winter ones) - everyone likes them

Advantages: do not get wet, warm, light, high quality

Flaws: price

Last year I bought ECCO Gore-Tex boots for my son. I was very pleased with them. The gore-tex system is a membrane located between the lining and the upper of the shoe, allowing the feet to “breathe”: it does not transfer heat to the outside and does not allow cold air and water to pass in from the outside. Therefore, in these boots your baby will always be warm, comfortable and comfortable in the worst weather. In addition, I really liked the design. The boots are not bulky and light. Easy to put on, even for a child, as they are fastened with Velcro.

Got it here The imported “membrane” covers three seasons at once – from November to April. These are shoes with a high degree of waterproofing, they are very light, and at the same time warm. If you are confused by the “frivolity” of her appearance and rubber sole, that means you haven’t seen special boots for hunters and fishermen made of rubber with temperature conditions down to -50°C, and even up to -100°C. They are also not particularly heavy or thick. Shoes with a Gore-tex membrane are considered the best. A paper tag will inform you of its presence.

I haven’t worn Ecco, but in general, such shoes are good for the city; they are definitely waterproof in rain and puddles. They get wet when walking through dew and even fresh, loose snow.

Indeed, the removal of vapors from these purely leather boots is organized in a way that no membrane has ever dreamed of, and the wear resistance is an order of magnitude higher. Although these are not “winter” boots in the full sense of the word, with a warm sock they behave perfectly in the cold...

I have a suspicion that everything that does not relate to “the foot does not sweat” and “does not get wet” has nothing to do with Gortex.

By the way, they cannot be dried on a radiator; Gortex is offended.

I always thought that Gore-Tex was a purely sports technical fabric.

sweat in a cotton T-shirt and in a membrane one... there is sweat here and there, but the cotton will stick tightly and will be tedious to dry, a membrane T-shirt removes moisture faster, in the end there is no such sticking effect and it dries faster and you will be much more comfortable...

The same thing with shoes... the foot “doesn’t burn” is like being in rubber shoes.. the foot dries faster, eliminating unpleasant sensations... it’s not as hot as in fur... a frozen foot warms up instantly if you add a little movement.. I forgot what it’s like to walk in woolen socks.. always an ordinary sports one, enough with head in the city

All these zippers and felt linings are complete crap in the urban wear cycle... when from warm to cold and back again, there are reagents, puddles, etc....

In membrane shoes since 1994 (Ecco, Assolo, Lowa, Rockport. Nike, Salomon, Adidas) ... never had a desire to return to felt, fur or wool

tick tock...

p.s. not to be confused with peek-a-boo)))

I like the first ones better, the second ones are too rude for a little lady, as for me - black looks like a boy... There, only the noses will stick out from under the overalls

idk, but in general I love ecco

This is the second season I've been wearing Ekko shoes. Boots and winter boots with Gore-Tex we never got wet during the long autumn-winter-spring running through slush and puddles. The shoes are stylish, functional, and retain their decent appearance for a long time, despite heavy use.…

My son “moved” to Ecco Gortex from the second year of his life, so I want to talk about the features of wearing these shoes.

Pros: everyone knows: this waterproof, and at the same time, breathable shoes; light; Great for Russian weather. Designed for active children, withstands frost down to minus 20 on a special sock (sold in Ekko stores - composition of natural and synthetic fibers).

I'll tell you about the disadvantages: Ecco Gortex shoes for winter sliding soles. This applies to all models that are presented annually for the winter season. So, in my opinion, autumn models are reflected as ideal, and winter ones with the same sole are like shoes for snowy weather, when there is no ice, and also for slush. On ice, the legs move apart.

Another one IMPORTANT feature Gortex models: the shoes perform their functions - they do not get wet and keep warm for only 3-4 seasons of wear. Those. If you bought shoes secondhand or received them as a gift, they will be functional after the 1st child. We wore shoes after 2 children (I got them from a friend) and they did not have the declared qualities at all - they leaked and our feet froze.

I wait for sales at Ekko, which happen every year at the end of summer, and buy shoes for next winter a size larger at a 30-50% discount.

Enjoy the shopping! Warm and dry feet for your children!

In the first winter after the birth of my child, I had a question: what should I wear when walking with my child? Beautiful leather boots are a shame to kill, and my feet begin to freeze in them even at minus 8 (I am very cold). My mother-in-law offered to buy felt boots :) But I bought Ecco Gortex. Moreover autumn! Those. They didn't even have felt lining! The seller assured that they would not get wet and that the membrane was good for walking, but if you stand/sit on a bench (in cold weather, I think there are few people so brave), then on sheepskin. I also bought heat-reflective insoles, but I didn’t need them!
What can I say, the boots met all expectations! I wore them on a cotton sock until minus five, and then with a wool sock! Haven't been cold for a day! The boots really don’t get wet, although we had to walk through slushy snow and puddles. Appearance It hasn’t deteriorated either, the oiled nubuck doesn’t crack or warp. So that's the problem for this winter winter boots not worth it.
Among the minuses (not the membranes, but the boots), I will note the very wide tops, which make these boots look like soldiers' boots. They still look okay over jeans, but you can’t wear them with a skirt. I hope that new collections will feature more feminine models with a Gore-Tex membrane. The sole slips a little (but this is due to the fact that they are autumn). Also, their prices are simply prohibitive, it is better to buy on sales.
I also tried to buy winter membrane boots for my one and a half year old daughter, you can read about this experience

I bought my first shoes from Ekko when my daughter was not yet one and a half years old, and fell in love with this brand forever. I’ll say right away that the only disadvantage of this brand is Velcro, they die after two children. But! In general, these shoes are capable of raising ten children, one season each. Basically unkillable. Of course it’s not cheap, so not everyone can afford it. For anyone with tight finances, I advise you to buy used shoes like this on Avito, for example, and not be afraid that they will fall apart. At least that's how I buy it now. True, I have only bought black shoes so far, for the reasons that I know to give them the new kind. I wash them in washing machine at 30 degrees for half an hour with a membrane agent, then I dry it and treat it with a product for rain and snow. It contains black paint, and at the same time touches up the faded areas. It’s a shame that now I don’t have before and after photos, but the sellers definitely wouldn’t recognize the shoes they sold me. This probably won’t work with shoes in pink, red and other bright colors. This product costs 60 rubles, enough to bring 3-4 pairs back to life.
